A Golden White-Eye
I took several photos of the Golden White-eye at the Denver Zoo. This bird is critically endangered and only found on the islands of Saipan and Aguijan. The bird hid well in this habitat but I loved this angle. I added text and background layers to give the piece more texture and depth.
Triumphant
Mountain flowers look delicate but have to be tough. They don't get a long growing season and often have to battle other plants and predators. Yet, these had shot up in what looked like a triumphant victory. They deserved their own composite.
Stepping Up
The graceful curve and majestic stone of these stairs caught my eye. We were on a retreat at the magnificent Glen Eyrie Castle and Conference Center near Colorado Springs. The setting took me back to a more stately–and peaceful–time.
Coffee and Chocolate
Coffee and Cacao We pulled in at a small farm in the mountains of the Domican Republic where the farm family quickly showed us some of their produce, including fresh coffee beans and cacoa. The yellow cacoa pods contain cacoa beans, which will eventually become...
Rain Down
The iris flower is a bold combination of beauty, delicacy, and determination. Not only does it thrive in harsh environments, but it stands up every year to what nature throws at it.
A Soldier’s Honor
I assembled this composite of a photo of my dad at his barracks during his service in World War II. I like the sepia color and the background clock - a reminder of a time past.
The Bear’s Surprise
I made this photo composite from a picture I shot of a black bear at the Denver zoo. The mystery in the bear's face intrigued me. I added the pigeon from another photo shoot. It was in my imagination but I don't know if it was in the bear's.
Right On Time
I was making a quick trip to the next town and came upon this train stopped on the tracks. The vivid colors drew me in and I pulled over to shoot a few quick pictures before it pulled away again.
An Eery Eclipse
A lunar eclipse provided a challenging but interesting photo opportunity. Here's a composite of some shots I got. I combined several into one photo for another-world look.
Fallen Leaf
A heavy afternoon rain cancelled our planned hike in the Snowy Range of Wyoming, but gave me a chance to shoot some photos instead. I found this lone leaf on the front step of our cabin. The contrast of color and texture intrigued me.
